A Few Friday Finishes

As I write this the wind is howling and the dust is blowing. We have had a warm, dry winter so far which is rarely seen. But today we are reminded that it is January in Nebraska!
A good day to share some finishes I have made in the last few months. They aren't all quilty, but fun nonetheless.
I actually made these roman shades last summer but now the window trim is all completed so I got them fully installed back in their home. I followed this tutorial and they came out quite nice!
Next up is a nice little end table finish! This lovely 10 gallon crock holds a plethora of my yarns and it gets picked at by my little boys so I thought a cover would be a nice double duty for it.
We had a cedar board that was a temporary holder of ceiling insulation. It came down as ceiling paneling went up, hurray. A post there for another time. Anyway, I cut it into three small boards and glued them together. After it dried i screwed a few small supports on the back to stabilize the seams and hold it in place on the crock. Finally I sanded and sanded it smooth and flat before putting on polyurethane. I like it!!
And it looks great next to my next finish! I covered this couch a few years ago in denim. It was a lot of fun and a great conversation piece but it had a few holes growing and was looking a bit tattered. I got a roll of this blue and white upholstery fabric on an auction so I gave it a face-lift! It is a bit bold but I am used to it now.
And now my only quilty finish of late, although I failed to get a completed photo... A friend added to her family of boys and so I put together another baby quilt.
They are boys who love hunting, fishing and the outdoors so i chose fabrics accordingly. There are trees, rocks, and even some fish!  I went with a disappearing 9-patch pattern which looks a lot different in a scrappy colorway. I backed it with a fuzzy backing and did a stitch and flip before some simple quilting. I got it mailed off before Christmas and it sounds like it has been loved already!

Haha, hopefully it won't be so long before I share another finish!

  1. The cedar top for the crock is a great idea. It looks great next to your beautifully recovered chair. You are a woman of many talents. Well done!
