Four Down!

Yay! I completed my memorization of Hebrews 4!
This chapter took me longer.
I forgot about it there for a few weeks, but was able to get back on task.
It helps that I live 7 miles from town...to work and from work I recite.
This week someone asked me why I am doing this memory work.
I'll tell you.
I feel it is important and it is given to us in Scripture that knowing God's word is important. Equally so, is the use of that Scripture, not just the knowledge but the wisdom. Right now I'm trying to focus on the memorization so I can put it into practice.

"These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts" --Deut. 6:6

"Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads" --Deut. 11:18

"...the word is very near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart so you may obey it" --Deut. 30:14

"The law of God is in his heart; his feet do not slip" --Ps. 37:31

"I have hidden Your word in my heart that I might not sin against You" --Ps. 119:11

"Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God" --Eph. 6:17

"Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom" --Col. 3:16

"For out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks" --Matt. 12:34

Therefore since the promise of entering that rest still stands let us be careful that none of you be found to have fallen short of it. For we also had the gospel preached to us just as they did. But the message they heard was of no value to them because those who heard did not combine it with faith. Now we who believe enter that rest just as God has said, "So I declared on oath in my anger, 'They shall never enter my rest.'"

And yet his work has been finished since the creation of the world. For somewhere he has spoken about the seventh day in these words, "And on the seventh day God rested from all his work." And again in the passage above he says, "They shall never enter my rest."

It still remains that some will enter that rest, and those who formerly had the gospel preached to them did not go in because of their disobedience. Therefore God again set a certain day, calling it Today when a long time later he spoke through David, as was said before,"Today if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts."
For if Joshua had given them rest, God would not have spoken later of another day. There remains then, a Sabbath rest for the people of God, for anyone who enters God's rest also rests from his own work, just as God did from his. Let us therefore make every effort to enter that rest so that no one will fall by following their example of disobedience.
The word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joint and marrow. It judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. For nothing in creation is hidden from God's sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.
Therefore since we have a great high priest, who has gone through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have a high priest who was tempted in every way, just as we are--yet was without sin. Therefore let us approach the throne of grace with confidence, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
--Hebrews 4
Notice that even this portion that I memorized shares the importance of the word of God.
