Oh, Christmas Tree...Skirt!

The morning we decided to go out and get our Christmas tree, I decided I would make a tree skirt!
I pulled out all my Christmas fabrics and had the diamonds and triangles cut in record time!
The living room floor was clean and had enough space for me to arrange them just so.  I tried taking my little Janome out there to piece them, but the dog coming home before I would finish talked me out of it!
At lunch, I grabbed food and headed out to the hubby working away in the timber.
We ate together and then set out to find our tree!  Getting a tree together as a family has always been one of my favorite Christmas traditions.
I left him hard at work with the tree stuck in the back of his truck and off I was to finish my skirt.
The pattern came in an email from American Quilting & Patchwork.  Merry and Bright Tree Skirt it is called.
I stacked each row and took them to the sewing table for the rest of the rows.  I only put them in the wrong order once...which is pretty good actually!😂
It went together quickly and I did just a simple echo quilting on both sides of the seams.

A simple cut up the middle of one side and it was time to bind...
I will say there are A LOT of inside corners on this quilt and the mitering is a little different on the outside ones too since they aren't 90 degree angles.  As I started I began to question my sanity!
I googled hexagon bindings to get some helpful tips and it wasn't as trying as I thought it might be.
I didn't get it finished before the tree arrived home but had it done the next day...long before there was anything else to put under the tree.
It turned out super cute!  It could stand to be a big larger, but works well as it is!
Rolph approves...boy was I worried, hahaha!
This skirt really was a very merry and bright finish!  Now what to do with that little pile of scraps it left...
