An Irish Chain In Progress Finish

Sometime last year a friend sent me some blocks.  Her grandmother was a quilter and upon finishing one of the projects in process after her grandmother's passing, she decided maybe quilting wasn't her favorite thing.  So, while sending me something else she threw these blocks in and asked me to put them together.
There were a lot of blocks...can't remember exactly how many.  Some like these and then some of the cream ones.  There was also a piece of graph paper which her grandmother had sketched out her plan for the blocks.  So nice to make someone else's vision come to life!  I had to make quite a few more of the cream blocks to get the quilt to a nice bed size.  I believe this is a type of Irish Chain design.
It went together so quickly since most of the piecing was done!  On to basting!  I did order some backing material from Connecting Threads rather than piece a bunch of my random stash.
I went pretty simple with the quilting.  I did diagonal lines through the chains.  I took them all the way to the border edges which created some nice triangles in the border.  I still felt like it needed something more.
I was still wanting to keep it simple.  I finally decided to just put a square inside the cream blocks. Nothing too fancy!
You can see the cream block quilting better in this picture she sent me back.  She was thrilled with the result! I love it when my quilts are loved!!

And doesn't it look fabulous where she is using it!? I love it, looks like it was made for that room!
There were still several of the main blocks left over and a few strips.  Perhaps someday they will become coordinating pillows, who knows!
