Wild Critters Finish For The Birthday Boy
Our little guy turned 2 this week! Hard to believe because I have felt like he was 2 for months now. I started the quilt kit from Connecting Threads over a year ago and thought that it was time to finish it.
The critters are so cute and these are the kind of wild animals we see all of the time. I didn't have to brain power to come up with a more unique quilt plan. I am happy with this one though!
It utilizes some beautiful chambray tonals (not sure they are available in chambray or not anymore).

I love the way you can see all of the beautiful colors even in the scraps from squaring up all of the half square triangles!
I used these same animals for the baby soft book I made for a friend and for us too!

So many quilts from the back look like stained glass to me.
And here is the kit top mostly assembled!
I knew that I wanted to make it bigger somehow to allow my kiddo to use it on a twin bed someday. So after adding the half square triangle border and the cream border I used some of the dark green chambray tonal I had for a large border. I used a coordinating fabric from the line, that I used here, for the corner sections.

I ordered an extra panel of the animals when I bought it and so I decided they were the best way to extend the length enough. That meant more animal Anvil Blocks. It made finishing the top make a bit longer but I am so glad I went that way now that it is complete.
Recently I ordered a yardage of Connecting Threads Floofy material, think minky, without a plan for it. I decided this was the place to use it. I am loving the feel of a nice, soft backing these days!
I loaded it up on Miss Vivian and got started. It was also my opportunity to use the new Madiera thread my husband ordered for me. I always tend to use what I have whether it is the right thread or not and Miss Vivian is NOT a fan of just any old thread. This new thread worked so well! Hurray for finishing the quilting without the headache of tons of broken thread!! I did a simple allover meandering pattern.
Both of my boys are getting over a cold and took lovely long naps this afternoon. That is a rare thing for my 5 year old for sure. It gave me just the time I needed to finish up the binding of this quilt today. When little man woke up we had fun looking at all of the animals. So precious!
Here is a full view of the completed quilt! I ran out of my cream fabric so the one border has the coordinating fabric in it as well. Not too bad!
