Pooh Diaper Bear
When I was little and when my younger siblings were little this diaper bear hung on the wall. I took it to use for my little ones diapers when I had my first.
Now that my little sister is expecting I asked how she felt about said bear...did she want it? The brothers were not so worried about the sentimentality of using their diaper bear. Haha!
Anyway, she said she did not really want it but was interested in a new bear all her own. So I began the process of creating her a Pooh bear for her diapers using the leftover fabric from her baby quilt. I used the existing bear as a pattern of sorts and started off by creating a large patchwork panel.
It was fun to try and fit in the fun quotes from some of the fabrics and then get it pinned for quilting.
For the back I used the fat quarters of blue and one with a quote on it since there wasn't any blue used in the quilt and patchwork outer parts.
I used my Featherweight to sew simple diagonal lines in every other square.
It is created by simply making a sack like form. I attached the panel around the edges of a rectangle. I encased a bit of hard plastic in the bottom rectangle to make it sturdy and rigid. Where the front edges meet I used the same binding method and fabrics as I used in her Pooh quilt.
For the top I free handed a head of Pooh looking/smelling a dandelion from one of the fabrics.
For Pooh's head I used the floofy yellow fabric from the quilt backing, layered with batting and a foam layer. I messed up here and layered them wrong for flipping. The batting ended up on the back, ugh. I simply cut it off around the edges and was happy with only the other two layers.
A few quilted lines to indicate his head and arm separation and some hand embroidered parts and it really looked like Pooh! I attached him to an orange section that widened out to a larger size.
I couldn't find a fake dandelion that looked like it would hold up so I found a sweet felt daisy and little bee from this Etsy shop. They are so sweet! I added them to his hand and the effect was quite charming!
Here it is!
I love how this diaper bear turned out and I make have to try it again sometime!
We delivered her bear at a baby shower a few weeks ago. So good to be a part of her little celebration! Now we wait for baby to arrive. Hurray!
