Purple Orchids, Please!
Shortly before Christmas a friend of ours asked me about recovering a comforter to surprise his wife. It had been a wedding gift to them.
We didn't have a whole lot of time to get fabric. I found some solid and some batik in a lovely shade of purple. Purple was the biggest request for the project.
The other request was for a focal fabric in the middle of orchids or cherry blossom fabric. That was the sticky part as I had to order in the fabric. I found 4 options on etsy and ordered them hoping they would arrive in time. Only one did but it was a very small print. The one I used was lovely large orchids and was scheduled to arrive on Christmas Eve...it didn't.
We got the fabric the day after Christmas and I quickly finished putting it all together. I had already put the back together and the majority of the front.
His suggestion for the focal fabric was a large oval in the center. I created said oval to applique on but once set in place, we agreed a rectangle looked better.
I also used the focal fabric as setting squares in the corners. Next up was the tying of the comforter, a first for me.
We had just finished our beautiful kitchen island top and it proved to be the perfect place for tying and finishing the comforter.
I just carried over my lovely portable featherweight and sewed the end shut! I sewed the other end the same so they matched.
And here she is! A few days late but loved nonetheless!
A close up of the pretty orchids!
