Eye Spy Quilt For My Boys

I came across this tutorial for an Eye Spy quilt from Kitchen Table Quilts back in January.
I am not much of one to buy novelty prints but I knew i had a bunch from my great auction sewing haul. I knew my boys would enjoy finding all of the things if I made one too. The wheels in my brain started to turn.
Not too long after I was digging through a box of sewing items looking for something and I found an impulse Etsy fabric buy I had forgotten about...a package of prints sold as Eye Spy fabrics! Haha, I guess it isn't the first time I have toyed with this quilt idea! So, I ran with it!!
I opted for tracing a cardboard square template and hand fussy cutting the focal fabrics.  My big guy was quite the helper.
Hehe, he started cutting them out on the spare mattress hanging out in the unfinished sewing room. We only had to stitch up four holes before I had him move to the floor. Oops!
Most of the fabric haul items are in totes in our unfinished loft which has no stairs. I had my husband get the ladder set up and I rummaged long enough to find some fun background fabrics.
Such a fun stack of blocks!!
And pretty trimmings too!
I didn't get too picky when laying out my blocks. I had to get them setup while the little guy was asleep.
Tried out a black and white option to test color value.
The rows sewed up pretty quick.
Then I loaded it up on Miss Vivian for quilting. She was a bit finicky at the beginning but once I found a different thread she liked it was smooth sailing.
The backing is a fuzzy blanket, the boys love that! And here it is being tested.
They had a blast finding all the animals and such! So fun to watch!

Definitely a hit! Hooray!
