Ready For Baby!

Our nearby town added a Dollar Tree store in the last year or so. I hadn't checked it out and found myself in town, early for an appointment and alone! (Hardly ever happens and feels weird, love having my boys with me!)
Anyway, I stopped in and happened upon their craft section which included fabric. There were several flannel and minky fat quarters that really coordinated so of course I grabbed them.
I have plenty of little muslins and receiving type blankets for our coming baby but wanted to make something just for this one.  I didn't get anything special made for our second baby which we lost and it hurts a bit. So enters a new project!!
I wanted quick and simple and went with 6 inch squares on the diagonal! I also DID prewash my fabrics this time...flannels always shrink and since I would be mixing I didn't want a replay of other recent projects! Haha!
I wanted it light and to still have nice drape so I opted for no batting. I used a yellow corduroy from my stash for the backing. It has a nice weight to it so it shouldn't be too flimsy.
I layed it out and did a simple stitch and flip...almost. I had a vision of a sweet scalloped edge on this one. So I free stitched each square into a gentle scallop.
I did a simple echo line of quilting around each square as well.
Here it is, all ready for baby! The corner scallops are a bit long but i like it!
We don't know if this baby is a boy or a girl. I am not a pink person and blue is my favorite so I think these colors will be fine either way.
Don't those scallops give it a fun look even folded up?! Yay! Only a few weeks to go!
